Often, yes, but it depends on how the underfloor heating was installed, because underfloor heating and radiators behave differently. Controls that suit one may not suit the other.
What affects compatibility:
- Zone switching. Some underfloor rooms have their own thermostat and a zone valve or actuator. In other homes the floor simply heats whenever another part of the system calls for heat.
- Water temperature. Underfloor heating runs on low water temperatures, and the water going into the floor usually has its own temperature control at the manifold. Arrangements vary, and some heat sources can supply a suitable temperature without separate mixing.
- Floor construction. A screed floor stores heat and changes temperature slowly. Some low-profile systems warm up faster.
- Radiator control. One thermostat for the radiator zone may be enough, or some rooms may benefit from their own valve control. Smart radiator valves are optional.
- The right device for the job. Underfloor manifolds often have a valve that limits the water temperature. It can look like a radiator valve but isn't one, and at least some manufacturers state their smart radiator heads aren't suitable for underfloor heating.
