No — the Boiler Upgrade Scheme does not operate in Scotland. It is an England and Wales scheme, run by Ofgem, and a Scottish property cannot claim it.
This trips people up constantly, because a lot of national heat pump content is written for an English audience and never says so. If you have seen a figure quoted for a "BUS grant" and you live in Edinburgh, the Lothians, or anywhere else in Scotland, that figure does not apply to your install.
What Scotland has instead. Scottish homeowners go through Home Energy Scotland (HES), funded by the Scottish Government and administered by the Energy Saving Trust. The HES route offers:
- A grant toward a qualifying MCS-certified heat pump installation
- An interest-free loan on top of the grant to cover remaining costs
- A rural and island uplift for qualifying properties
The practical requirements are similar in spirit to BUS — you need to be a homeowner, the property must be an existing home, the heat pump must provide all your heating and hot water, and the install must be completed by an MCS-certified installer. Our heat pump installs are completed under the MCS certification of our partner JME Green Energy, which is what makes HES funding available through us.
Grant and loan amounts are set by Home Energy Scotland and change from time to time, so we confirm the current position at your survey rather than publishing a number here that might be stale by the time you read it.
